The 103 degree weather in Seattle was WAY more fun spent @ the diving boards at Green Lake!  I did my first ever backflip on a diving board…even corked it and got a 180 in! Best lunch break ever.

Airline Ticket, check!

The support and interest in my journey to learn a bit about my heritage, to find my birth mom and to learn a bit about myself is overwhelming.  I love you and thank everyone who’s shared a story, a contact, or merely an ear.  So much more to come!

What would you do? … if you knew you had One Week to live?

One Week, Toronto Film Festival winner, chronicles the motorcycle trip of Ben Tyler as he rides from Toronto to Tofino, British Columbia. Ben stops at landmarks that are both iconic and idiosyncratic on his quest to find meaning in his life.

Thank you Sarah Stall for kidnapping me and making me watch this film. Super fun movie with some simple but well choreographed cinematography and i love Canada so it was fun to see the landscape that you don’t get to see very often. The pace was very similar to a surf film, the soundtrack was really (not quite a Garden State soundtrack but close) good, and aaaaawww who doesn’t love Pacey (joshua jackson). I like the idea of the narrator, it reminded me a lot of Jean-Pierre Jeunet (fav director), but this guy’s voice isn’t doing it for me… reminds me of Jigsaw from the SAW movies. Anyhow, if you’re seeking the meaning of life or just want to see the Canadian countryside, please see this beautiful movie.

i love summer….so i wrote a haiku about it…

Here is a little haiku summing up my weekend:

In Whistler,
Sun and friends and randomness,
So happy.

Randa driving like a champ…yup, that thing.

Randa and Mark Frank hanging out in the Canadian Customs office.

Hot?

Molly’s U.S. Naturalization

naturalization.jpg

This photo was apparently taken at my US Naturalization right after arriving to the States. It’s basically the acquisition of citizenship or nationality by somebody who was not a citizen or national of that country when he or she was born.

On a side note, rad outfit mom!

No time like the present… time to go to Korea.

Sooooo, did i fail to share this finding?  A bummer, but also something to work with.   Next steps:

  • Raise some capital (aka, save some money)
  • Contact Star of the Sea Baby Home in Inchon (outside of Seoul) and make arrangements to visit
  • Purchase airline ticket
  • Find lodging
  • Study Language
  • Go

“Dear Mrs. Yoon Yung Eun :

Hi. I hope you are doing well.

My summer was busy with our summer programs and motherland tour groups. Many adoptees visited our office to reconnect themselves with their past. At first, it was quite overwhelming to follow their requests and assist them along the way, but soon this feeling was replaced with joy and excitement; I was grateful that they allowed me to be part of their lives even for a short while.

I have been checking with Mr. Lee, a police officer, about the progress of a search for the lady who brought you to the facility, but the result is negative. Without solid information, he is having great difficulty to locate her. The only thing we have is her name (Lee, Kil Ja) and old address (Seoul). What make the search more difficult is that her name is way too common. It is like Mary and Suzanne in English. The officer has been sending letters to ladies with the same name in the similar age bracket, but no body came forward.

A while ago, I called your orphanage to request your information via fax because I wanted to send you something that could shed lights on your adoption, something original and tangible. They released your information over the phone – the name and the old address of a lady who brought you to the facility – but refused to fax it. They stated that you could get a copy, but not me. Each facility has different policies. I need to respect it. They will be happy to give you a copy when you visit them.

I am sorry to share this disappointing news with you. I feel sad and even incompetent as a social worker. We receive many phone calls from birth parents. I will keep my ears and eyes peeled for you.

I will ask the police officer to continue to work on your case.

Sincerely and with respect,

Kyunghee Toni Ma”
