Day 9 | Tuesday October 28, 2008

High tide isn’t till 2:45 today so there’s a lot of time to be productive before we head out to the water today… in an effort to save a couple bucks I headed out to do some grocery shopping, mail some postcards and maybe do some souvenir shopping.  I hopped on andrew’s bike and dropped into a few spots to see if they could mail my postcards and ran into a ton of dead ends, meh, ill do it later.  The street vendors and local shops weren’t quite open, the streets were just barely waking up at a lazy 10:00am.  Some street vendors were opening their shutters, but most were still closed.  I peddled on and ended up at Mas X Menos, the local grocery store.

Day 8 | Monday October 27, 2008

Up with the sun and another day in Costa Rica…..weeeeeeeeeee!  some breaky, a nice cup of coffee, some journaling, and time for surfing!  I was kind of torn this morning… do I hang it up and spend some more hours doing absolutely nothing? OR do I go out and conquer the impossible seas and make them my bitch… and actually get up and ride a wave finally?!  I opted to get outside and I got up riding some waves finally!  I had so much fun… I actually enjoyed surfing today!  It was still a tiresome battle making it out past the breaking waves but I stood up on some solid waves, and rode a lot of white water…I paddled my ass off and found some muscles that I didn’t know were in my upper body… una dia bien!!!

Day 7 | Sunday October 26, 2008

5:00am, up and out the door!  First stop Puntarenas to pick up the Lashers, the parents of an old friend from high school, Richie.  They have been on a cruise and just came from Guatemala and their stop for the day is Puntarenas, Costa Rica.   Andrew and I rented a car and drove about an hour north along the Pacific coast highway to meet them as they disembarked from their cruiseliner and the plan was to head to Manuel Antonio National Park for the day to check out some wildlife and some of Costa Rica’s supposed best beaches.

Day 6 | Saturday October 25, 2008

Dia de nada is what I will call this day.  I spent most of the day vegging out.  My vegetable state consisted of sleeping in, reading more “Seat of the Soul”, swimming in our backyard pool, a ciesta, more reading and lots of tv.  Now that sounds absolutely retarded given the landscape that I find myself in right?  Well, I dont have tv back home so back off…350 days in the year are tv-less.  In light of some lessons in my latest book I am learning how to “lose myself” and indulge a bit.  Im on vacation right?

Day 5 | Friday October 24, 2008

Im officially no longer a kid?!  No more excuses for my irresponsibility and lack of tangible achievements!? Today is the day that I celebrate my birth into this world…. now some times I joke about having some crazy glamorized conception, where my mother and father were royalty or Korean aristocrats, torn apart by unfortunate circumstances, leaving my mom with no choice but to put me up for adoption, knowing that it would be the best thing for me.  In the midst of separation arguments and depositing this cross eyed cocoon into an orphanage I wonder if my actual birthday ever got lost, along with my estranged identity that I long for today, did my birthday get lost as well?. … this is mostly a fantasy I keep to myself but sometimes I think how easy it would be to be handed a few answers.  But nah, I guess ill take the long road.

 Day 4 | Thursday October 23, 2008

Oh hey, it’s the day before my birthday.  …so high tide wasn’t until 9:45 and we were going to a closer beach this morning so I got to sleep into 6:30am…. For some reason since arriving here I’ve been able to pop right up even before my alarm goes off,  its kind of nice. Ooooh the things I could achieve if only I could get up at the butt crack back home!!

Day 3 | Wednesday October 22, 2008

My first official day of vacation started at 6:00am!!!!!!! Well actually, since I still haven’t figured out the 1hr time difference I actually had set my alarm for 5:00am Costa Rica time…boo. Well, It wasn’t hard falling back asleep, so I did. 6:00am hit and I was in my little bikini and crawled into my board shorts and found a tank top to suffice as a rashgaurd and we were out the door.
